10 Style Tips For Women To Look Better
1. Take care of your clothes.
I recommend washing your elevated t-shirts and jeans in the gentle cycle. Hang them to dry. Use mesh bags, a clothing rack for drying, and get things dry cleaned that need to be dry cleaned. These simple tips will keep your clothes lasting longer and looking better. Everything that you hang in your closet you should be hanging to dry.
2. Use your wardrobe budget on fewer high-quality items.
Even if this means having fewer items or shopping less. Spending your wardrobe budget on one or two quality items versus 10 pieces that are lower quality will make elevate your style.
If you are spending less on your clothes, I recommend buying clothes in solid colors. Avoid prints because the quality of the item shows more. Make sure the craftsmanship is as high as your money allows it to be.
3. Make sure your clothes fit.
Making sure your clothes fit you well is such an important part of looking better. I created a video, “The #1 Secret To Style” which is about which clothes to get tailored, how to tailor them, and why it’s important to have great style.
If it’s a piece you love, make sure it fits you perfectly. You’re not going to look of feel great in an item that’s too big.
4. Steam or iron your clothes.
Taking time to steam or iron your clothes is my next style tip. It will make your clothes look so much better. I tell my styling clients to have an area in their closet to put the items that need to be steamed. Plan to steam those items once a week and then hang them in your closet. That way when you’re getting dressed in the morning and may not have as much time, your clothes are ready to be worn. Ironing or steaming your clothes will make your outfit look put together.
5. Wear monochrome outfits.
Wearing monochromatic looks is my next style tip. I recommend styling neutral monochromatic outfits from head to toe because they instantly make you look more expensive. You can wear blush, gray, cream, ivory, white, black, navy, or camel. Monochromatic outfits can make you look so much better.
6. Invest in a capsule wardrobe.
The fashion tip is one I wish I knew 20 years ago. It would have saved me so much heartache and gotten me ready on time for so many events that I was late for. Investing in a capsule wardrobe will help you get dressed easily, no matter where you’re going or what you’re doing. Having quality, closet staples is the foundation for your wardrobe.
The capsule wardrobe is the one thing that has probably changed my style more than anything else. A capsule wardrobe doesn’t mean that you only have 15 or so pieces in your wardrobe unless you’re minimalist and prefer it that way. For me, I have the 15 staple closet pieces and I also have other items I love that aren’t part of my capsule wardrobe. Starting with a capsule wardrobe is a huge style tip.
7. Buy inexpensive shoe polish.
Instead of replacing your leather boots or shoes that have scuffs, use inexpensive shoe polish. Polishing your worn shoes is an easy and inexpensive way to make them look brand new.
8. Use wet wipes to clean your sneakers.
For white sneakers, use wet wipes to clean them. That’s the easiest way to clean your sneakers so that they (and you) will look better.
9. Plan your outfits for the week.
I wish I had known to experiment with my wardrobe 20 years ago when I was figuring out my style and really didn’t know what worked for me. Making time weekly to plan your outfits for the week is another creative and fun tip for looking better. This tip would have saved me so much time. I recommend planning for an hour or even longer, in the beginning, to practice putting outfits together.
While you’re creating looks, if you’re finding gaps or pieces that are missing, write them down. Have a running shopping list to be aware of what’s missing from your wardrobe to get dressed easily. If you have an outfit but don’t have shoes to go with it, there’s probably a pair of neutral shoes you’re missing. Write that down on your shopping list.
10. Add accessories.
Another way to easily look better is to add accessories to your look. I’m not talking about statement jewelry unless that’s your style. I recommend adding simple accessories like gold or silver delicate necklaces, bracelets, and rings that you can wear all the time. Adding accessories to any outfit elevates it and makes you look better.
