Biggest Fashion Mistakes To Stop Making
1. Buying Fast Fashion
When a clothing item isn’t made of high quality it’s not going to last. Something that costs ten dollars is made of inexpensive fabric and low quality construction.
Fast fashion will not help you get dressed or save you money because you will always need to be buying more.
2. Not Having A Capsule Wardrobe
Having a capsule wardrobe is the foundation of any well-curated closet. Without a foundation you’re not going to be able to build outfits easily. A capsule wardrobe is what will help you get dressed easily and feel great in your clothes.

3. You Don’t Know Your Personal Style
Not knowing what your personal style is can be a huge mistake. Knowing your personal style will help you make better shopping decisions. It will also help you put together outfits because you have an overall idea of what you like.
4. Wearing An Outfit That’s Not Flattering
Certain body types will look better in certain styles. Knowing your body type and what silhouettes work best for you, will help you make less fashion mistakes. It will also help you feel more confident in your clothes.
Avoiding things that aren’t flattering for your body type will elevate your style.
5. Focusing On Trend Pieces
The next biggest fashion mistake is buying trend items instead of investment pieces. If you’re spending most of your wardrobe budget on trend items, you’re spending on items that won’t last. So you’re always going to be shopping for new items instead of saving up for investment pieces. Timeless items will not only make your clothes and style more elevated, they will actually help you feel so much better in your clothes and give you a closet full of pieces that you love.
6. Closet Clutter
If you have a closet where you can’t find anything is another huge mistake people make. Your closet shouldn’t be somewhere where you store everything. If you have a hard time finding items in your closet, chances are you’re going to go out and buy more items.
According to a OnePoll survey, 61% of women who have a hard time finding anything in their closet end up buying new clothes. If you have a closet that’s organized and clutter free it’s going to save you time and money.
7. Not Taking Care Of Your Clothes
Taking the time to hang dry items will help them last longer and look better. Instead of putting clothes in the dryer, use a drying rack for your clothes. They will last longer and look better.
If an item says to dry clean it, then make sure you have it dry cleaned.
8. Buying The “Brand” Not The Item
I used to get caught in this next mistake and that is buying something because of the brand over what the item is. Today I find certain brands that I make great quality pieces and those are the brands I gravitate towards. However, years ago I would gravitate towards certain brands because they would be at a certain price point and I thought if I had items from that brand then something about my style was going to be better.
Buying something only because of the brand versus it’s an item you love isn’t going to help you get dressed easily.
9. Wearing Too Many Patterns Together
When you wear too many patterns together, it can overwhelm your frame. If you’re wearing a pattern, find one item that’s going to make the statement for your outfit. Whether it’s a blouse that’s a statement or a shoe, style statement for each outfit and let everything else be neutral.
10. Not Knowing What’s In Your Closet
Do you shop without knowing what’s already in your closet and what you actually need? This is another big fashion mistake that I think a lot of us have made. We’re shopping without a shopping list or knowing what we need.
11. Purchasing Clothes That Are Low Quality
I avoid low quality clothes at all costs because they don’t last. The fabric doesn’t feel great on my skin and it’s just another thing in my closet that I don’t love. Fabrics and quality elevate an outfit and last longer.
12. Wearing Too Many Accessories
Wearing a statement necklace with statement earrings and a statement bracelet together can overwhelm your look. If you want to accessorize, think of having one piece be the statement and the rest of your jewelry be minimal.
13. Focusing On Quantity Over Quality
Thinking more is more is another big fashion mistake. Quantity does not equal quality. Having more does not equal getting dressed easier. It does not equal loving your clothes or feeling confident in them.
I’ve seen many women go through this where they think they just need more so they keep buying things. The problem is that they don’t actually know what they’re missing. They’re buying more lower quality pieces and still having a hard time feeling great in their clothes.
14. Not Tailoring Your Clothes
For your clothes to look and feel good, have items tailored to fit you perfectly. It’s worth the cost because it’s going to elevate that item and you’re actually going to wear it.
15. Skipping Steaming
Steaming or ironing your clothes will make them look so much better.
16. Convincing Yourself To Buy Something You Don’t Love
Stop convincing yourself to buy an item that you don’t love. If you don’t love it when you first put it on the chances are you’re not going to fall in love with it later. It’s not like a relationship with a person where it takes time to fall in love. Clothes are different. In that first seven seconds you try something on, what’s the initial feeling you get. Do you love it or because you need something to wear are you trying to convince yourself that you like it enough to buy it?
17. Not Buying Basics
Years ago, I refused to spend money on clothing staples. I thought they were boring and would make my outfit look boring. What I know now is that having clothing staples in your closet will completely change your wardrobe and help you look put together. If you’re missing you wardrobe basics, these items should go on your shopping list and be the first things you buy.
18. You’re Not Doing A French Tuck
The French tuck or half tuck will completely change the silhouette of a look and make you look taller and thinner.
If you’re making any of these biggest fashion mistakes, they may be the reason you’re having a hard time getting dressed and feeling great in your clothes.
