How To Elevate Your Daily Style
Tip #1: Practice
My first tip for elevating your daily style is to practice. We improve whatever we focus on, put our attention to, and consistently practice. I always tell my clients, “If you want to get better at putting outfits together you need to practice doing it”. If you struggle with creating outfits with what’s in your closet, set aside 30 minutes once a week to practice. Try styling pieces in different ways and experiment. Creating time to practice, instead of rushing in the morning , will help you get better at putting outfits together.
Tip #2: Steam Your Clothes
My next tip is to steam your clothes. Even your T-shirts and tank tops. Anything you wear daily will look and fit better when steamed. Just like setting aside time to plan outfits, I recommend blocking out time once a week to steam. Steaming makes clothes look better and helps them lay nicely on the body. A key tip is to steam the lining separately if the item is lined, as this will also improve the fit. Additionally, when you take the time to steam your outfits ahead of time, everything will be ready to wear.
Tip #3: Take A Photo
My next tip is whenever you put together an outfit you love and feel confident in, take a photo and keep an ongoing lookbook on your phone. I always recommend my clients create an album dedicated to their personal style, filled with outfits made from the pieces in their closet. Anytime you feel stuck or need an outfit for an event, you can refer to this lookbook for inspiration. It also helps you avoid unnecessary shopping because you already have outfits that are tried, tested, and loved.
Tip #4: Choose 1 Statement Piece
My next tip for looking better and putting outfits together is to pick one statement piece. Decide what will stand out in your outfit. Is it a print, a bold earring, a colorful top, or maybe a vibrant shoe or bag? Keep everything else minimal and neutral. Especially if you’re new to styling, focus on one standout item and let the rest of your outfit be simple. This approach makes it easy to create looks, as your statement piece shines while the rest of your outfit consists of basics and essentials that mix and match effortlessly.
Tip #5: Add Jewelry
Adding accessories to your look can completely change its feel, making it more intentional and styled rather than just thrown together. Think about your personal style and how jewelry fits into it. If you have a minimal style, you might prefer small stud earrings and a simple bracelet, or maybe you’ll skip jewelry. The key is to understand your style and choose accessories that feel authentic because it will help your outfit look more put-together.
Tip #6: Invest In Basics
My next tip is to invest in your basics, your closet staples, and wardrobe essentials. Your essentials should fit both your body and your personal style. These are the higher-quality, streamlined, and versatile pieces that form the foundation of your closet. They are what you’ll use to build your outfits and create a timeless, functional wardrobe.

Tip #7: Look For Inspiration
Another thing I love doing is looking for outfit inspiration. Whether you’re scrolling through Pinterest or people-watching at a cafe, it’s a great way to get inspired. This inspiration doesn’t have to be limited to your wardrobe. It can come from anything that excites you. Think about how you can translate those ideas into your closet and use the pieces you already have to recreate the looks that inspire you. Even as someone who has been styling for a long time with a solid wardrobe foundation, I still love finding new ideas from other women and how they style pieces. It’s also a great way to be creative.
Tip #8: Know Your Personal Style
The next way to look put together and dress better is by knowing your personal style. This is probably the most important tip. What feels authentic to you? What do you enjoy wearing the most? Most of us fit into one or several of the nine common personal style types. Once you know your style, you’ll understand which pieces in your closet resonate with it, and when you’re shopping, you’ll know if something fits your style or not. Taking the time to identify your personal style will make putting outfits together much easier.
Tip #9: Organize Your Closet
Finally, my last tip is to make sure your closet is organized. The pieces you wear out of the house, part of your everyday wardrobe, should be hanging and easily accessible. Put away your loungewear, pajamas, and workout clothes in a drawer or dresser, but keep your daily clothes visible. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve organized a client’s closet and found pieces they loved but forgot about because they were tucked away or hidden behind less-used items. Additionally, an organized closet helps you see what you have, making it much easier to put together outfits.
