5 Ways To Upgrade Your Wardrobe
1. Try on pieces.
If there are items in your closet that you haven’t worn in a while, try them on. There may even be pieces that you’ve never worn before that still have the tags on them. Decide whether to keep them or let them go once and for all. If you’re going to keep them, commit to coming up with two to three ways that you can wear them now.
2. Look for new ways to style your clothes.
If you are feeling uninspired with your clothes or clothes that you are wearing all the time but feel bored, think of new ways to style those pieces. You can find great outfit and style inspiration on Pinterest, Instagram, or some of your favorite fashion blogs. They can help you see the pieces in your closet in a new way. Merrick of Merrick’s Art writes, “I always create my favorite outfits when I experiment with new color combos. Look through your closet and find two things you’ve never paired together before”.
Another thing I recommend is having a Personal Stylist or a trusted friend whose style you admire look at your closet with you. Ask if they have any ways they would style some of the pieces in your closet. Sometimes just having an outside eye put things together differently, will give you a new way to look at your clothes.
3. Replace any elevated basics you need.
If you don’t know what a capsule wardrobe is and what elevated basics you should have, start there first. In general, elevated basics are pieces that every woman needs for a foundation wardrobe that allow her to get dressed easily.

4. Finally get those alterations made.
Go through your wardrobe and see if there are any items that can benefit from alterations or tailoring. Maybe there’s a pair of pants you’re not wearing because they’re a little too long, or a blouse you’re not reaching for because it’s a little too big. Take those items out of your closet and commit to bringing them to a tailor. Getting minor alterations for your clothes can bring new life to those pieces and make you feel like you just went shopping.

5. Get rid of anything that doesn’t make you feel good.
Even though this should be a basic style tip, a lot of us have a hard time letting go of items in our closets. It doesn’t matter what you paid for it or if it was a gift, the simple rule is if you don’t feel great in it get rid of it. Let go of those pieces that you bought and can’t return, or that you got as gifts, and feel guilty getting rid of. Items that you don’t feel great in shouldn’t be in your wardrobe.
