10 Women’s Travel Essentials
1. Layers
![travel capsule wardrobe, find your style](https://i0.wp.com/ericaballstyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Screenshot-2024-10-08-at-11.50.58%E2%80%AFAM.png?w=1200&ssl=1)
The first item I recommend bringing is a layer. This could be a cardigan, blazer, knit jacket, or anything you can easily put on or take off to work for weather fluctuations. Even in summer, layers are essential. Air-conditioned indoor spaces can be chilly, and evenings by the ocean often bring cooler temperatures. I learned this the hard way, and since then, I always pack at least one layer regardless of the destination or forecast. When I travel, I choose my layers based on where I’m going and what I’ll be doing.
For shorter trips, I might bring a cardigan sweater which is perfect for transitioning from day to night. It can make a dress feel more casual or elevate a simple T-shirt and jeans. For longer trips, or if I need a dressier option, I pack a structured jacket. A good layer keeps you comfortable and pulls an outfit together, making it an essential piece for any trip.
2. Day-To-Night Dress

The next travel essential I always pack is a versatile dress that can transition easily from day to night. If dresses aren’t part of your personal style, I recommend finding your version of this versatile piece. It could be a jumpsuit, a skirt and top combo, or even a pair of trousers and a blouse. The key is choosing something slightly dressier that you can wear comfortably during the day and elevate for an evening out. This flexibility ensures you’re prepared for any occasion while keeping your packing light and efficient.
3. Elevated Tee

The next essential I always recommend packing is an elevated T-shirt. This piece is a staple in my capsule wardrobe, offering the perfect balance between casual and polished. It’s not as dressy as a blouse or as heavy as a knit, but it’s versatile enough to work for both daytime and evening looks.
An elevated T-shirt pairs effortlessly with jeans and flats, sandals, or sneakers for a comfortable daytime outfit. You can add a layer if it’s cooler. For the evening, simply swap your daytime shoes for something dressier and add a more formal layer if you’ve packed one. This simple switch transforms your look, making an elevated T-shirt a practical and stylish travel essential.

4. Jeans

The next travel essential I never leave home without is a pair of good denim jeans. Jeans are a staple in my everyday life, and I love a high-waisted, slim, straight-leg pair for their versatility and comfort.
For versatility, I recommend a medium-to-dark blue wash without distressing or embellishments. This classic, streamlined pair can be styled for both daytime and evening. During the day, I’ll pair them with a T-shirt and sneakers for a casual look, and for the evening, I can easily dress them up with a more elevated top and shoes. A great pair of jeans in a fit and silhouette you love is not only a capsule wardrobe essential but, also a travel must-have.

5. Lightweight Sweater

The next item I never travel without is a lightweight sweater. Even when traveling in the summer, I like having the option to stay warm while still looking polished. I prefer cashmere for its versatility and ability to regulate body temperature. It’s perfect for staying comfortable in air-conditioned spaces or cooler climates, yet it remains breathable if the temperature rises. A lightweight cashmere sweater is a must-have for me, ensuring I’m cozy and stylish no matter the conditions.
6. Chic Trainers

The next item I never travel without is a pair of chic trainers. I love pairing sneakers with a dress, jeans, or a T-shirt for a look that’s both stylish and comfortable. They’re one of the easiest ways to create a put-together outfit while ensuring you’re ready for a full day of walking and exploring.
Since I like to do a lot of walking when I travel, comfortable yet stylish shoes are a must-have. In the summer, I’ll also pack flat sandals or flip-flops for flexibility in hot weather, but I always start with sneakers. If sneakers aren’t your style, your version of a comfortable, closed-toe flat is just as essential. The key is choosing footwear that won’t limit your plans or comfort while traveling.
7. A Hat

The next item I always travel with is a hat. For me, the main reason is sun protection. A hat helps shield my skin and keeps the sun out of my eyes, making it an essential travel companion. Unless you’re heading somewhere in the dead of winter with minimal sunlight, I highly recommend packing a hat. It’s practical year-round, offering protection and comfort in sunny conditions.
8. Sunglasses

The next item I never travel without is my sunglasses. I wear sunglasses 99.9% of the year—not only because I love how they can elevate an outfit and make it feel more polished, but also for the extra protection they provide from bright sunlight. When packing sunglasses, I always choose a pair that’s versatile, stylish, and classic. This way, they seamlessly complement any outfit I’m wearing while being practical and functional. For me, sunglasses are an absolute travel must-have.
9. Jewelry

The next item I never travel without is my jewelry. My jewelry aesthetic is minimal, favoring simple, dainty pieces in gold and silver. I don’t typically use jewelry as a statement but love how it completes an outfit, making it feel intentional and polished. Jewelry is also incredibly travel-friendly. It’s small, easy to pack, and elevates any look. My everyday jewelry is what I wear while traveling because it’s effortless, timeless, and requires no extra thought. It’s a small but impactful way to make any outfit feel more put together.
10. A Crossbody Bag
The next item I never travel without is a day-to-night crossbody bag. A crossbody bag is incredibly practical because it allows you to be hands-free when traveling. Whether I’m walking through markets, exploring new places, or popping in and out of shops and cafés, I like having my bag securely on me. It eliminates the worry of forgetting it somewhere because I’m too focused on enjoying the moment. A crossbody bag also adds a polished touch to any outfit, like jewelry or sunglasses. It makes your look feel intentional and complete. I recommend choosing a neutral-colored bag that transitions easily from day to night and pairs with everything you’re packing.
These are my 10 must-have travel items. With these wardrobe essentials, I never feel like I’ve forgotten anything or that I’m unprepared for my trip.
